College wasn’t built for neurodivergent minds—let’s change that together.

About

Meet Joel

Joel Smiling.jpg

“I didn’t want to be a bystander in someone else’s story—I wanted to be invited to the table. And now, I help others create more seats.”

Joel Kottman is an author, speaker, and unapologetic advocate for neurodiversity in higher education. As a neurodivergent student, Joel experienced firsthand the gaps in colleges and universities—unspoken social dynamics, inconsistent support systems, and environments that too often misunderstand difference.

Now, Joel helps educators, institutions, and allies recognize the strengths of neurodivergent students and build systems of genuine inclusion, not just accommodation. His work is grounded in lived experience, community connection, and a belief that empathy + strategy = real change.
