College wasn’t built for neurodivergent minds
let’s change that together!
Many neurodivergent students show up to college ready to learn, but face invisible rules, misunderstood expectations, and systems that weren’t designed with them in mind. Joel Kottman is leading a neurodivergent-powered movement to change that. Through radical storytelling, consulting, and inclusive strategy, he equips educators, allies, and families to build environments where all minds can thrive.
I'm an Odd Duck:
Observations & Insights about Neurodiversity
Coming Spring 2026
In I’m an Odd Duck, advocate and speaker Joel Kottman shares lived insights into the experiences of neurodivergent students. The book serves as an entry point for educators, families, and organizations seeking more inclusive and supportive learning spaces.

“I didn’t want to be a bystander
in someone else’s story.
I wanted to be invited to the table.
Now, I help others create more seats.”
Joel Kottman is an author, speaker, and unapologetic advocate for neurodiversity in higher education. As a neurodivergent student, Joel experienced firsthand the gaps in colleges and universities—unspoken social dynamics, inconsistent support systems, and environments that too often misunderstand difference.
Now, Joel helps educators, institutions, and allies recognize the strengths of neurodivergent students and build systems of genuine inclusion, not just accommodation. His work is grounded in lived experience, community connection, and a belief that empathy + strategy = real change.
